Review: Legends & Lattes, by Travis Baldree
“High fantasy with low stakes” - love it. It’s a great meta point about the genre that usually the stakes are enormous. That’s a lot of fun but it’s also a great exercise to set that aside and still use the trappings of fantasy to tell a closer and more personal story.
I loved all the characters in this book. Viv is strong and talented and has a good eye for organization but she’s too hard on herself. Tandri oscillates between well placed assured confidence and a recognizable uncertainty. I can hear Cal talking, with his very distinctive “Hm”.
Also I would like a cinnamon bun, please.
And to see that the author is a NaNoWriMo participant from 2021 is awesome! Turning that around into something as successful as this so quickly is quite the achievement. And having read it, it’s clearly very well deserved.
