チェインソーマン #1, by 藤本タツキ
「チェインソーマン」を読むのは「よつばと!」より難しいです。でもチェインソーマンのアニメをもう見ました。知っている話は私に手伝ていました。アニメでマキマは悪役するのはバレバレです。でも漫画でほんとうにもっとばればれです!
日本語のレベルについて別にキャラクターは難しきが違います。デンジさんはよくバカです。だからデンさんの日本語は他のキャラクターより簡単です。
I’m not quite sure what it is that makes Makima more sinister in the manga than she is in the anime. Maybe it’s because on the still frames on the page you can inspect her expression more closely. Maybe I just know more to distrust her now. But still, that sense is there.
Like Dragon Ball, I needed a dictionary a lot for Chainsaw Man. Particularly when Makima discussed the various public security departments - the names of fictional government agencies and such tend to be a kanji soup that takes me a long time to parse. Still, like I’ve said in other reviews, prior experince with the story does help me a lot. When Power was talking about her cat, when Makima was expressing that they need to work together or die, I suddenly realized part way through working out some dialogue which specific line from the show was being said. That constraint let me pull out and recognize more of the complicated grammar.
Chainsaw Man the story itself, as with the show, is a lot of fun. Gory, violent fun no doubt, with a lingering existential dread on Denji’s part that he doesn’t really seem to recognize, but clearly the reader is supposed to. You feel sorry for him, despite his many, many flaws. And when he really cuts the chainsaws loose, the artwork excels in delivering the impact of those fights.
