Review: Batman: Arkham Origins, by WB Games Montréal
This review was originally a series of tweets, which is why it is structured as it is.
This review was a part of my “Back Catalog” series in 2020, where I went back and achievement hunted in games that I had previously started, but not completed.
Next up on #BackCatalog is Batman: Arkham Origins!
I’m at 16/50 achievements in it, so there’s definitely room to get more!
I love the Arkham games, they’re some of my favorite games of all time!
I already have 100% on the 3 @RocksteadyGames Arkham titles, so any way I can find to play more is always welcome! (Arkham Knight is my highest TrueAchievement score game as well)
Unfortunately it looks like the online services for Arkham Origins have been shut down, which makes some of the achievements inaccessible ☹️
But there’s still plenty of single player!
I was surprised when I booted up the game to see I had actually already finished the main story! So I’m gonna be hunting side quests and collectibles
Oh and did I mention there’s an achievement for the combat challenges? Because there is and I don’t have it.
And I fucking love the Arkham combat challenges, so here we go!
I have all the collectibles!
And have half the achievements
Wait what?
So there are some that I missed during the story and there’s a New Game+ achievement, so I’ll probably go for those next
Also I’m beginning to doubt this part:
Unfortunately it looks like the online services for Arkham Origins have been shut down, which makes some of the achievements inaccessible ☹️
I’m seeing streams of Arkham Origins multiplayer as recently as March! Is this still running? @splashdamage @WBGamesMTL I’d love to jump on and grab some achievements!
Arkham Origins’ combat is slightly tweaked from the other Arkham games, which has been throwing me off consistently on a bunch of the challenges that I normally complete no problem
But at last, I have discovered the knack to this one as well
I needed 60,000 and I got 275,000 👍 #XboxShare
Also I’m back to the “screaming ‘I am Batman!’ at my TV” levels of excitement while playing these and it is giving me life
I’ve now completed New Game+ on Arkham Origins! And even managed to complete the “Worst Nightmare” challenges along the way. They were as hard as their name suggests
Now I’ve also started “I am the Night” mode, which is like New Game+ but the whole game starts over if you die
I’m most of the way through, fingers crossed for that last bit! 🤞🤞
And been chipping away at combat and predator challenges in between
And did I mention…?
I AM BATMAN!
I just died in my I Am the Night playthrough, in the final level, at full health, because I did a puzzle too slowly
Don’t talk to me right now 😭
Driven by a seething hatred for that particular puzzle and an unwillingness to be defeated by some storm drain, I have played the whole game again
AND I AM THE NIGHT!
I restarted that puzzle so many times when I got to it
There were no chances taken this time. The slightest slip: restart from checkpoint
I probably would have made it on most of them
But I take no chances, and now
I AM THE NIGHT! I AM BATMAN!
And now after cleaning up a few other challenge medals, I have all of the single player achievements in Arkham Origins!
It has rough spots, but it’s a great game. There’s nothing quite like that Arkham combat system
