Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, by Bethesda
This review was originally a series of tweets, which is why it is structured as it is.
This review was a part of my “Back Catalog” series in 2020, where I went back and achievement hunted in games that I had previously started, but not completed.
Up next on #BackCatalog is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim!
Like so many other #BackCatalog titles, I started Skyrim but never played very far
I managed to get 100% on Oblivion (including the Shivering Isles)
I got to the college at Winterhold and did some of their quests, but then kind of stopped
So now I resume! I’ve already started off all of the faction quests and am making progress across the board
Skyrim has such a great theme song. And it plays whenever an “ambient dragon” attacks you, which is awesome!
I’m playing a kind of hybrid mage/thief character (which is similar to what I played in Amalur, now that I think about it!)
I was clearly invested mainly in the mage side before
While looking at the achievement guides to see if there were any missables I should look out for, I saw this treat of a bug that tells you how to buy a house without spending any money
I just love the fiction of it. You’re in the middle of buying a house and midway through the transaction you stuff all your money into a wardrobe
When the merchant gives you the key and goes to take the money, you don’t have it and they just… shrug and move on
This should work irl
Sided with the Stormcloaks because Ulfric has a great voice
Thief: This is your last warning, hand over all your valuables
Me: Oh, you don’t realize this game doesn’t have any difficulty achievements so I’ve turned it way down stabs
I will be returning to Skyrim in the future, but I’m also aiming to get to 60% completion by the end of the year and that means 3 achievements per day, which Skyrim is too big for!
