Reviews: Guitar Hero: World Tour, by Neversoft and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, by Beenox
Up next on #BackCatalog is Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits (or is it Smash Hits?) The physical box says “Greatest Hits”, the game’s name in the console and on TA/Xbox’s website is “Smash Hits”
I’m confused
Anyway! This is one of those non-back-compat titles (presumably due to music licensing?), so my shiny new 360 is coming in handy here! (It’s not shiny or new, but it works!)
Remember back when I was playing Uno: Rush, I thought I might have to use a guitar controller to get to 4 players?
Of course you do!
Well turns out I don’t own that guitar I thought I owned anymore. All of my instruments are PS3 instruments (cuz that’s where I have Rock Band).
So again with the used hardware! I have purchased another guitar! (Hilariously it was slightly more expensive than the 360 console.)
I’m missing… a lot of achievements in these games. But many of these achievements are crazy difficult, so I’ll probably leave those ones behind.
But I can certainly get “play as a vocalist” in World Tour and “complete career” in Smash Hits!
I’ve always loved all these plastic instrument games. Endless nights spent trying to get Expert high scores in a band with friends is great fun
I’m rusty now, but it comes back gradually. Apparently I haven’t completed the Guitar Hero 3 career on hard? But I have a vague memory of there being one extremely difficult song.
Several achievements require multiple instruments, which I don’t have (second guitar, drums). One achievement is locked behind having the actual GH4 drums (Rock Band drums don’t count!) so I never could have gotten that one. Hilariously it’s for finishing the drums tutorial.
Between GH3, 4, Smash Hits, and 5, there are a fair few achievements for me to pick up!
And revisit being a rock god while I’m at it!
